Youth softball batting order: continuous batting explained
Understand a continuous batting order as a roster format and check whether your league uses it.
A continuous batting order puts the participating roster in batting sequence, but the rule is league- and format-dependent. Confirm the option your competition uses.
What continuous batting means
A continuous batting order lists the participating players in sequence, with the next inning continuing after the last completed turn at bat. The exact option depends on the governing rules and competition format. For example, Little League describes a continuous order in which available, eligible players appear in the batting roster; USA Softball rules and options vary by division and event.
Agree the roster before the game
Confirm the batting option with the other coach and official where required. List every player in the agreed order, check spellings and mark changes using the procedure for your competition. Do not assume that one national rule applies to every youth league.
What the LineupSheet tool records
The tool lets you enter players in batting order and choose its continuous-batting setting. The order remains visible in the plan; fielding assignments and bench turns are calculated separately. The setting records your selected plan and does not certify rule compliance.
Keep the lineup current
Update the order when availability changes and follow the official substitution or injury procedure. Keep a copy with the scorekeeper so the next batter and any replacement are clear.
