How to use it

  1. Add teams in seed order. Seed 1 is the first name.
  2. Choose single or double elimination. In double elimination, a team leaves after its second loss.
  3. Make the bracket. Select a ready team to advance it through the winners or losers bracket.
  4. Save, share, print or download the bracket.

How it works

  • Byes fill the next power-of-two bracket and go to the top seeds.
  • Single elimination uses n−1 games. Double elimination uses a winners bracket and a losers bracket. The finalists meet once; if the losers-bracket finalist wins, a reset decides the champion.
  • Team names stay on this device unless you create a share link. Anyone with the link can read it.

Frequently asked questions

How many byes do I need for 12 teams?

A 12-team bracket fills the next power of two, 16. It has four byes.

Who gets the byes?

Byes go to the top seeds. Enter team names in seed order, with seed 1 first.

What is the difference between single and double elimination?

In single elimination, one loss removes a team. In double elimination, a team leaves after its second loss and teams move through winners and losers brackets.

When is a final reset played?

The undefeated winners-bracket finalist must lose once before elimination. If the losers-bracket finalist wins the grand final, both finalists have one loss, so they play a reset. Otherwise the grand final decides the champion.

How many games are in a double-elimination bracket?

For n teams, a double-elimination event has 2n−2 games before a reset. A reset, when needed, adds one game for 2n−1 total.
